Num•Num

In 2015 I discovered that a surprising number of small business owners in Belgium were still creating their invoices in Word or Excel. Hours lost to manual work, inaccurate bookkeeping, and no connection to their accountant.

Together with two partners, I founded Num•Num: an invoicing platform powerful enough for professional use, yet simple enough for people who didn't grow up with technology.

Smarter invoicing

Num•Num handled the entire invoicing process — from quotes to invoices to credit notes. But the real difference was in the details that saved time:

Automatic time and material tracking. For tradespeople who don't always have the time to log every product used and every hour worked, I built a system using barcode scanners. Plug in a scanner via USB or Bluetooth, scan products and time entries, and invoice everything at the end of the week with a single click. Data synced automatically — no user intervention required.

Direct connection to the accountant. Through integrations with Sage Cloud Demat, Clearfacts, Exact and Wings, invoices were forwarded automatically for real-time bookkeeping. No more emailing files, no delays.

Github Starstruck Badge

The PHP libraries I wrote to generate UBL invoices and credit notes are open source: num-num/ubl-invoice . Now approaching 750,000 downloads with 125 stars on GitHub.

Result

In 2021 I successfully sold Num•Num. From idea to exit — I designed and built the entire platform, the USB sync desktop applications, and the server infrastructure. Everything needed to turn a market problem into a working, sellable product.
